Zonnia Shallow is an environmentalist with a passion for sustainable development. She is a past student of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies where she graduated with passes in Environmental Science, Chemistry and Geography. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental and Natural Resource Management from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. Zonnia currently serves as the National Coordinator for the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. CYEN which is a civil society, is a non-profit organisation geared towards empowering young people and their communities to develop programmes/actions to address socio-economic and environmental issues to achieve sustainable development.
Under CYEN, Zonnia has rallied for biodiversity conservation; she was one of the head coordinators of the Worldwide Views on biodiversity citizen consultation in September 2012. The results from this event were presented at the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP11) in India on October 2012. Zonnia recently attended the 2017 Youth Climate Change conference, held in Kingston, Jamaica from Tuesday 10th to 12th October and plans to execute a series of climate change related workshops for youths, through CYEN
Zonnia aspires to be a Natural Resources Manager and has the strong belief that “the environment can survive without us, but we are the ones who need the environment to survive. Preservation and conservation of our natural resources is therefore vital”.
