First Lady of Sports,Gloria Ballantyne carrying the Queen’s Baton GLORIA BALLANTYNE MBE Gloria Ballantyne, a former St. Vincent and the Grenadines national player, in 1976 assumed headship of the local Netball Association, a post she held to 1980, but returned in 1982, until she retired in 2004. Her contribution has not been restricted to Netball. Ballantyne, between 1974 and 1975, and in 1980, was the Treasurer of the then St. Vincent Football Association. Gloria Ballantyne has held a number of positions on the Caribbean Netball Association’s Board, also the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, Treasurer of the Americas Federation of Netball Associations and Convenor of the Regional Umpires Committee and Deputy Chairperson of the National Sports Council.
Gloria Ballantyne, the longest serving president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, has been dubbed by the National Olympic Academy, “The Nation’s First Lady of Sport”. In 1998 She has been the recipient of an OBE from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
